Mike Leake

Mike Leake made the Reds Roster as 5th Starter. CBS Sportsline says he's the first SP to go straight from the draft to the majors since since Darren Dreifort in 1994. As I recall, Dreifort had a decent start, then faded into mediocrity (with a lot of injury problems). John seemed to think highly of Leake considering his selection of Leake as someone he'd put into a pressure 7th game situation against the Yankees.

Is this kid that good? What does the community think he'll do over this year and the first few years of his career?

Good for my fantasy team

really?

You think a guy skipping the minors entirely will be good for fantasy purposes? There will be quite a few guys that are FA’s now that will perform better than Leake this year.

Won't get many K's...

but I think he provides a good ERA and he should get some wins. I think he suprises a bunch of people this year.

I'm in a 30 team league, real teams

So obviously there are so many starters to go around and I have Leake

Negative Value

5+ ERA. I see stats similar to Cahill last year.

I can't see him walking that many

but he may get hit harder and I doubt he has quite the GB rate (means more HR which means higher ERA). 120 IP / 80 K / 50 BB / 20 HRa

He may outpreform those rough numbers, its not as though time in the minors would improve his stuff much. I feel if any pitcher in this tier wsa to be thrown in to the majors right away then he is the best bet to come out and surprise. It should be interesting, if nothing else. At least he’ll have Aroldis Chapman catching his flyballs in the outfield.

That's what some said about Porcello

Leake has decent stuff and really good control.

You guys win. You can keep your little marked-out piece of internet territory. Spend your days communicating via keyboard with people too ugly for the real world and too nerdy for anyone to care, anyway. Your piece of land is here. Do the rest of civilization a favor and stay within its limits. You bore me. Have fun with your nightly sobs and screams into your pillow over your inability to attract a good mate, Radiohead. ~The Hooligan

Porcello Has GOOD Stuff

And good control/command.
Porcello still has ace potential IMO.

the point is

Leake is still probably a better option than most. He dominated in college and in his AFL stint. The only issue is his composure, and he seems to be ok in that regard.

Not A Leake Fan

I liked Boxberger more than him.

That seems pretty baseless.

+1 again

Boxberger has occasionally shown better velocity than Leake, but he doesn’t hold it. He’s not nearly as good as Leake in other ways.

I think Boxberger’s real value is as a guy who could contribute relatively soon as a late-inning option, or perhaps a back-end starter if the Reds prefer going that route.

I Watched Both Their Pitch F/x over the AFL

Boxberger impressed me. Leake bored me to tears.

Leake's Composure

That seemed to be the implication of John’s pick of Leake as one of his choices to start the 7th World Series game — that Leake has good composure, along with good enough skill to give his team a chance to win the game.

This move makes very little sense to me

Particularly for a team that probably isn’t going to contend.

by Fanon on Apr 3, 2026 2:22 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I agree with C-Whitman

The Reds are apparently more retarded than the Mets

OK, so we Put Aroldis Chapman in the minors after weeks of his over-hyped universal noise satellite radar

ohh, but by the way Mike Leake you’re our 5th starter
STUPID

he’s gonna get killed at some point.

Wow Blackburn makes nearly identical money as Baker does now....
