Logan Forsythe
How far is he moving up lists with his new switch to 2nd base? I know it's early but seems like a great move for the Padres who fill an organizational need for a future 2nd baseman and they already had an abundance of 3rd baseman candidates. All reports seem to believe he can stick at 2nd and now he goes from probable average/above average hitting at his position to good or better.

he's a guy of interest
At least part of the reason for moved off 3B because of the belief that he was a polished player near his ceiling who didn’t quite have the bat for a 3B. I think his bat will be pretty good for 2B, but if people thought he’d be an average/above-average hitter at 3B, he A) wouldn’t have moved and B) he would’ve been much more highly rated in the first place.
Seems like a solid average 2B in the making.

Well
He was already fifth in BA’s Padres list so I don’t think he’ll move up there at all. He is a better prospect at second mainly since there are so few that are highly regarded. I don’t think this will effect his prospect status much though it probably will get him to the majors faster.

I am hoping he makes it
I have him on my dyansty team and I have a lot of depth at 3B and very little at 2B so I have my fingers crossed on this one.

I like him
But don’t think he’s that much better than Sogard, who they traded to us

Sogard
…had defense-issues according to team brass (this info was from the Towers/Fuson era). Forsythe is credited with being a supurb defender…

2B
is not a Padres team hole…
They have: Antonelli, Zawadzki (currently at SS but could move to 2B), Cumberland (currently at SS but some experts predict a move to 2B)…

Those guys might play second base...
But which of them have a chance to match the offense Forsythe can provide?

All 3
Antonelli actually has the highest upside (he could be a .300 hitter with 20-ish HRs and stolen bases, Cumberland also has the ability to hit . 300 w/ stolen bases but not as much pop… Forsythe prob has more pop than Cumberland but less Antonelli and less speed than both… Zawadzki has the most pop of any of them but lowest potential batting average (.250-275ish)…

Seriously?
Matt Antonelli (who isn’t good) and then 2 guys (one 25 in a month in AAA, he other just turned 21 years old). Those are examples of 2nd base not being a hole for the Padres??

Seriously?
Antonelli was lost for the past 2 years, but come back at the end of this season… One of will eat crow. Cumberland has ALWAYS produced - he just needs to stay healthy… Zawadzki has legit power and the best infield arm, don’t rule him out just because he’s not 19 in AA.

Still have yet to see how either guy
Makes 2nd base for the Padres future filled. If they don’t (hint: they don’t) then it’s a hole that Logan has helped to fill. And as I mentioned before, he went from a position of depth to a position of lack.

No, he changed positions...
…from a spot where the big league position is filled with a younger player (Chase Headley) and there are several potential suiters in the minors, to one where the big league spot is about to be opened up (Eckstein won’t play forever) and his only competition is from fellow minor leaguers.
Ironically, 2B might actually be deeper than 3B becauee each of the 3B prospects (except Forsythe actually) has serious defensive question-marks such that they may be better suited for other positions (lots of experts think both Darnell & Rincon will end up as corner outfielders)… And each of the current 2B and current-SS-potentially-future-2B has enough defense-abilities to handle the keystone.

Yeah Im just going to stop
You’re taking some really weird stances. 2nd base for the Padres franchise might be deeper than 3rd base?? You’re entitled to your opinion so o.k.

Sorry, I really don't like to be argumentative...
…and I’m not trying to be - but I know I frequently come across that way… Sorry.
Here’s my take: the Padres best 3B prospects are Darnell & Rincon. Both are error-prone and some say Rincon’s destined for LF while Darnell will eventually handle RF. So how deep is the position when the best players at that position might (are likely) both be moved - there is no serious 3B prospect with legitimate MLB caliber defense and MLB caliber offense… At 2B however, all 4 players I mentioned have a shot at that position… Isn’t that depth? Antonelli was rated top 50 by several minor league sources, and Forsythe & Cumberland were each high draft picks, only Zawadzki is late-bloomer…
