Update

Potpourri coming up this evening. I should have some draft stuff for you this weekend. Want to slip a Not a Rookie or a Prospect Retro in there too, so make some suggestions if you like. Prefer someone who perhaps wasn't a hot prospect but who has panned out.

Have you written anything about Andre Ethier?

Denard Span?

Span seems better than anyone imagined… how come? Or is he a crash waiting to happen?

Span was a 1st-round pick

Would have been top 10 if not for bonus demands. He always had the talent.

Talent vs performance

Okay, I realize Span showed talent at the point of being drafted. What I am referring to is the fact that he never once in his minor league career converted that talent into performance, yet now he seems to be doing it at the mlb level. In five minor league years going into 2008 he showed decreased offensive performance at every new level, and his 2007 season at AAA was .267/.323/.355 with a 40/90 BB/K and a 25/14 SB/CS showing… not the stuff that makes one optimistic about his future. In his 2008 book, John said “unless he shows some unusual skill growth, he won’t make it as a regular”. Well, womehow the penny dropped for Span… he significantly improved his strike zone judgment in 2008. How did that happen? It is so rare…

Suggest something more bad-ass

Ok... been thinking about it

Ill throw out a couple quick.

“Minor League Thoughts” - Playing off Minor League Ball
“Beating the Bushes” - Playing off Bush Leagues
“Baseball Futures” or “Minor League Futures”
Maybe something simple like “Roundup” or “Tuesday Notes” or “Around the Minors: Wednesday”
Maybe something playing off your name - Icesickels, Popsickels

I dont know… someone probably can come up with something better… all I know is, when I hear “potpourri” I think my grandmother’s bathroom. if you come up with something good, Im sure someone or I could photoshop up a nice little banner to put at the top of each one, too…

I like potpourri

It means a medley, or an assortment of items. Maybe your brain tends too much toward fruity, foo-foo things.

Considering Strasburg's status....

…as the presumptive #1 pick, I think it would be really interesting to do prospect retros on some of the other pitchers selected #1 overall. Some names which a search of the site didn’t bring up a retro on are Mike Moore, Floyd Bannister, and Tim Belcher.

Brian McCann?

Definitely wasn’t a big name, got called up a bit early, and still turned into a star.

Nevermind, I hadn’t seen the one of McCann yet, just looked it up.

Scutaro?

I know that you mentioned him in your history of shortstops briefly, but what about a prospect retro on Marco Scutaro?

Wandy

I’d be interested in a retro on Wandy Rodriguez. He really seems like he’s coming into his own this year and was (as far as i know) an unheralded prospect.

Drew Stubbs

I know this is off subject, but could you do a crystal ball for him?
