Good morning everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Morning Report for Saturday, July 14th, 2018.
****Yesterday’s discussion thread is here.
****Milwaukee Brewers outfield prospect Corey Ray went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles for Double-A Biloxi. He’s now hitting .247/.339/.483 with 23 doubles, 16 homers, 23 steals, 45 walks, and 110 strikeouts in 352 at-bats. Contact is still a concern down the line but he’s made good progress this year turning his raw power into game power while adding improvements in baserunning to go with a higher walk rate.
****Ray’s teammate at Biloxi, 2017 first-rounder Keston Hiura, went 4-for-4 with a home run last night. Since moving up to Biloxi a month ago he’s hitting .288/.350/.448, a bit off the .320/.382/.529 mark he ran up at High-A Carolina before promotion but still a very solid performance in his first trial at this level.
****Texas Rangers pitching prospect Hans Crouse threw seven shutout innings for Spokane in the Northwest League last night, giving up just one hit, walking zero, while fanning 11. The 2017 second-rounder is way ahead of the NWL at this point and I expect he’ll move up to Low-A sometime in August.
