Good morning everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Morning Report for Tuesday, May 29th, 2018.
****Miami Marlins rookie Caleb Smith continued his strong season in the rotation with seven innings against the San Diego Padres, allowing one run on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
****Seattle Mariners prospect Kyle Lewis went 4-for-5 with two homers and five RBI for High-A Modesto. Since being activated he’s hitting .302/.327/.509 in 53 at-bats. although his 1/16 BB/K ratio leaves something to be desired. That said, the important part is that he’s playing.
****Chicago White Sox prospect Michael Kopech gave up two runs on three hits and two walks while whiffing seven in six innings of work for the Triple-A Charlotte Knights. Overall he has a 3.86 ERA in 51.1 innings with 68 strikeouts and just 36 hits allowed. Its the 25 walks that are the problem but his stuff is good enough that International League hitters struggle to make consistent contact.
****Houston Astros outfield prospect Kyle Tucker went 3-for-3 with two walks and four RBI for Triple-A Fresno against El Paso. Tucker is now hitting .282/.361/.447 on the season.
****Minnesota Twins prospect Nick Gordon went 3-for-4 for Triple-A Rochester and is hitting .333/.355/.400 since his promotion to that level.
