Good morning everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Morning Report for Friday, May 25th, 2018.
****St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Alex Reyes continues to thrive in his rehab assignment, this time punching out 13 in seven shutout innings for Triple-A Memphis including nine in a row. In 23 rehab innings since returning from Tommy John surgery, Reyes has allowed zero runs, only seven hits and seven walks, while striking out 44.
****Cincinnati Reds prospect Hunter Greene had a nice start on Thursday, going 4.1 innings for Low-A Dayton with four hits allowed, two walks, one run, and six strikeouts. His ERA remains unpleasant at 8.44 but he’s thrown well in two of his last three games with a 14/2 K/BB in 11 innings.
****Tampa Bay Rays lefty Brendan McKay threw six shutout innings for High-A Charlotte. On the season he has a 0.76 ERA in 35.2 innings between Low-A and High-A, with a non-typo 50/2 K/BB ratio.
****Oakland Athletics rookie Dustin Fowler went 2-for-3 with a stolen base against the Seattle Mariners. He’s hitting .222/.293/.389 through 13 games and 36 at-bats, with four walks and five strikeouts. Interestingly his BB/K/PA ratio is much better in the majors than it was in the minors, granted the sample is too small to be meaningful yet. But that’s worth keeping an eye on.
****More highlights can be found in yesterday’s Gameday discussion thread.
