Marlins MOD #1

Marlins MOD #1

Philosophical Breakdown:

The Marlins face many disturbing realities heading into the draft, but three stand paramount and in dire need of reversing.

1. The Marlins suck.

2. The Marlins are going to suck for a few years.

3. Nobody, including Marlins fans, cares about the Marlins.

Luckily for my co-GM Drew and I, those realities help narrow down our criteria for our selections. There is no real urgency to win in Miami, so any surplus value provided by a college player’s proximity to MLB action is negated. Likewise, the void of recognizable names on the Marlins roster allows leniency in precision and ample room and patience to search for impact talent.

Ultimately, the first pick will come down to a few high upside high-schoolers. Hitters work better as faces of a franchise, so unless a top tier pitcher falls or somebody emerges as a superior talent and value we will avoid them.
