Cubs MOD #1

Hey folks. For our little mock draft, the Cubs are going to have six picks and a healthy budget to work with if anybody slides due to money. The next MOD will have a little more in depth analysis of the Cubs recent draft strategies for the first four rounds over the last few years. Here are the picks we will be working with.

1 (24) -
2 (62) -
2b (77) -
2b (78) -
3 (98) -
4 (128) -

Total bonus money available - $6,319,600

Lets see what some of the recent mock drafts out there have the Cubs taking with their first round pick. CBS Sports has them going with prep RHP Ethan Hankins from Forsyth Central HS in Georgia. If he falls that far, he would definitely be on my radar.

This one from Mayo at MLB has the going the college arm route with Kentucky RHP Sean Hjelle. A 6'11 pitcher is risky to me, even with a track record of SEC success. For every Randy Johnson there are 20 Loek Von Mil's or Jon Rauch's.

BA is going with Stetson RHP Logan Gilbert, a strikeout pitcher at the top of the K leaderboards for D1. Two of the three mocks link the Cubs to prep catcher/switch pitcher Anthony Seigler from Cartersville HS in Georgia. Seigler is getting a ton of helium and neither of the two mocks think he will fall all the way to 24.

So what say ye olde Cubbie faithful?
