I was bored so decided to make a 2nd MOD thread to discuss picks AFTER #6 overall. As I said initially, I really want to be realistic with my picking. This is not necessarily what I would do if I was running the Mets draft, but what I think the Mets will do.
Based on the track record of the Mets, if they go for a HS signing that will likely command at least slot money in Round 1, I do not see them risking any future picks in the first 4 rounds on HS players/Draft Eligible Sophomores/ unless they are more off the board picks who may be willing to stay closer to slot. On the other hand, if the Mets go for a college player in Round 1 or take someone who will sign a below slot deal, I cannot rule out at least one HS player in future rounds. The Mets did do a HS player last year with Vientos, but in the previous draft (with Dunn and Kay in Round 1, Alonso in Round 2, etc.) the first HS player I believe was in about Round 6, although Blake Tiberi in Round 3 was a Draft Eligible Sophomore. The one thing I can say about the track record of the Mets is that they are not likely to spend all four 4 picks on pitchers or all 4 picks on hitters.
Two positions that came up in the previous thread were OF and C. With regards to the former, all else being equal I am going to try and land an OF at some point. With C there just is not much talent in the college ranks this year so I am not going to make any assurances there.
Doing my own research I have some names in mind, but I am not posting for now because I know people who are "Scouting Director" of other teams do read these threads. I will happily take names of other people to look at. It gets more challenging later on because it is impossible to know how realistic everyone else is going to be. The biggest issues tend to be a lack of knowledge on what bonuses High School seniors and Draft Eligible College Sophomores will sign for and overrating how much cost savings will come from picks made early on.
