The Cardinals have the following picks in the first four rounds of the draft:
1:19 - $3,231,700
CBA:43 - $1,664,200
2: Forfeited for signing Greg Holland
CompB: 75 - $799,600
3: 95 - $587,600
4: 123: $446,900
Since 2007, when John Mozeliak became Cardinals GM, the Cardinals have had 16 first round picks. Those picks have been evenly split between pitchers and position players. Half the position players were high school, while only two of the eight pitchers were high school prospects. Most recently, the last three position players chosen were HS, but three out of the last four pitchers were college players.
Last year, the Cardinals did not have a pick until the 3rd round, and did not select a pitcher until the 8th round. I expect the Cardinals to go after pitching early this year.
Weaknesses in the Cardinals system include power bats, left-handed hitters and left-handed pitchers.
If you have some suggestions for who the Cardinals should take in the first round, please respond below. I will post a list of who I think the Cardinals may target in Round 1 on Sunday.
