The Texas Rangers don't have the deep farm system they had just a few years ago after dealing away the likes of Nick Williams, Jorge Alfaro, Luis Ortiz, Lewis Brinson, and others, but a good 2017 draft has stocked the system with some upside. In 2018, the Rangers have $7,356,000 in pool money, $3,738,500 of which is in their first pick, number 15 overall. The Rangers have a history of selecting high upside arms when they can (Hans Crouse just last year) but they do need more bats in the system, so it will be interesting to see how the top of the draft goes. With this draft being very deep with second and third tier talent, many teams (Rangers included) may go after players they can get under slot in the first to provide flexibility later.
