Good morning everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Morning Report for Thursday, May 10th, 2018. Here are some items worthy of your attention today.
****St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Jack Flaherty continued his domination of Triple-A by fanning 13 over 6.2 innings for the Memphis Redbirds against Oklahoma City. He allowed six hits and two runs but didn’t walk anyone. Overall he has a 2.27 ERA in 31.2 innings with a stellar 41/7 K/BB. Nothing left to prove here.
****Fellow Cardinals prospect Alex Reyes made his 2018 debut for High-A Palm Beach, giving up four hits and a walk in 3.2 shutout innings while fanning six. This is his first game back since Tommy John surgery and was reportedly clocked as high as 98-99.
****Toronto Blue Jays prospect Dwight Smith Jr. went 3-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored for Triple-A Buffalo, raising his line to .291/.389/.430.
****San Diego Padres prospect Adrian Morejon fanned seven over seven innings for High-A Lake Elsinore, giving up just three hits and one walk with no runs allowed. He has a 3.68 ERA in 29 innings with a 30/11 K/BB, quite credible in the California League especially for a 19-year-old.
****Minnesota Twins prospect Nick Gordon went 3-for-4 with a home run for Double-A Chattanooga, moving up to .339/.369/.534 on the season. Again, nothing left to prove at this level.
****Is anyone surprised by Boston Red Sox prospect Jay Groome having Tommy John surgery?
****Los Angeles Angels rookie Jaime Barria was impressive in his fourth major league start, fanning seven over 5.1 innings against the Colorado Rockies in Coors Field with five hits, one walk, and no runs allowed.
