Twins prospect Nick Gordon and Cardinals prospect Jack Flaherty making easy transitions to Double-A, plus today’s prospect discussion

Nick Gordon hits

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Gameday discussion thread for Saturday, May 6th, 2017. Let’s get started.

****Today’s Minor League Scoreboard

****Today’s MLB scoreboard

****Highlights from yesterday can be found in the Friday comments thread.

COOL STUFF THAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY

****Minnesota Twins shortstop prospect Nick Gordon went 3-for-5 for Double-A Chattanooga against Pensacola, driving in two and scoring two runs. He’s hit .325 in his last 10 games and is batting .340/.402/.490 overall, making an easy transition so far to the Southern League at age 21.

****St. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Jack Flaherty fanned 12 in seven innings of work for Double-A Springfield in the Texas League, shutting down Northwest Arkansas on two hits, a walk, and one run. He now has an 0.69 ERA in 39 innings over six starts with a 40/5 K/BB. That’s another smooth high minors transition for a 21-year-old.

****New York Yankees outfield prospect Clint Frazier went 2-fo-2 with two walks and a run scored for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He’s been heating up of late, hitting .316 in his last 10 games and raising his season line to .256/.360/.489, good for a +126 wRC+ in the pitching-friendly International League. As usual he’s striking out at a steady once-per-game clip but he’s drawing walks too and the isolated power is there.
