Dinelson Lamet shines in MLB debut for Padres, while Lucas Giolito throws no-hitter in Triple-A

MLB: San Diego Padres at New York Mets Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Gameday discussion thread for Friday, May 26th, 2017. Let’s get started.

****Today’s Minor League Scoreboard

****Today’s MLB scoreboard

****Yesterday’s Highlights can be found in the Thursday discussion thread.

COOL STUFF THAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY

****San Diego Padres rookie Dinelson Lamet was impressive in his major league debut against the New York Mets, going five innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks, while fanning eight. He was clocked as high as 98 MPH by PitchFx.

****Chicago White Sox pitching prospect Lucas Giolito threw a seven-inning no-hitter for Triple-A Charlotte in the International League on Thursday. He did give up three walks while fanning three. On the season Giolito now has a 5.44 ERA in 46 innings with a 43/25 K/BB. This is certainly disappointing given the hype and glowing scouting reports over the last few years, but he is still only 22 years old and it is much too soon to give up on him. I do wonder if he would be better off in the bullpen however.

****Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Ian Anderson fanned 11 with one walk, one hit, and no runs allowed in six innings yesterday for Rome in the Low-A South Atlantic League. The 2016 first-rounder now has a 3.73 ERA in 41 innings with a 59/22 K/BB and just 34 hits allowed over nine starts. He’s just 19, so no need for the Braves to rush him.
