Good morning everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Gameday discussion thread for Tuesday, November 14th, 2017. Here’s what happened yesterday in the Arizona Fall League.
*****The Glendale Desert Dogs defeated the Mesa Solar Sox 10-3, with key offense being provided by Los Angeles Dodgers prospects DJ Peters (1-for-5 but that hit was a homer) and Yusniel Diaz (3-for-5). A third Dodgers prospect, catcher Will Smith, went 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored, while right-hander Andrew Sopko threw four shutout innings.
*****Pitching dominated the contest between the Peoria Javelinas and the Salt River Rafters, with Peoria emerging as the victor 2-1. Seattle Mariners right-hander Max Povse threw six shutout innings for the winners while Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Ryan Atkinson threw five shutout innings in the losing cause.
*****Good pitching was also the focus in the 2-0 triumph of the Scottsdale Scorpions over the Surprise Saguaros. New York Yankees pitching prospect Albert Abreu was the headliner with five shutout innings. Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Burch Smith gave up two runs over four innings for the defeat but struck out nine.
