Minor League Ball Gameday, June 11

Javier Baez - USA TODAY Sports

Good afternoon prospect watchers. Today is Gerrit Cole Day. I predict 4.2 innings, 5 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts, non-decision in an 8-6 victory for the Pirates. What say you?

***I am working on finishing the draft reviews this afternoon, then I'll have some final draft thoughts and wrap up that process.

***The big news in the minor leagues yesterday was Javier Baez, the Chicago Cubs prospect hitting four homers for High-A Daytona. He's hitting .432 in his last 10 games and now has a .291/.339/.570 line on the season, with 13 homers, 17 doubles, 11 walks, and 60 strikeouts in 230 at-bats. As with Twins prospect Miguel Sano, Baez has some flaws but his pure talent appears to be too good for the Florida State League right now, and I think he needs to move up to Double-A sometime soon in order to be truly challenged and learn what he needs to learn against more advanced pitching.

What do you think? How soon would you move Baez up if you were running the Cubs farm system?
