Minor League Ball Gameday Discussion, March 29

Stay connected for news and updates

Jason Castro - USA TODAY Sports

Good morning prospect watchers. Opening Day is almost here. This is today's thread for discussion about rookies and prospects and the last remnants of news coming out of spring camps in Florida and Arizona.

On the "avoid work and read this instead" list for today:

***Lewie Pollis at Beyond the Boxscore discusses a foolproof method for finding the next Jose Bautista or Ben Zobrist. His candidate for a huge breakout this year? Catcher Jason Castro of the Houston Astros.

***New York Mets prospect Noah Syndergaard comments on his curveball, Brandon Nimmo, and The Walking Dead. I've never been into the zombie stuff myself, but I do like curveballs.

***Two homers and six RBI for Houston Astros prospect Jonathan Singleton yesterday. He'll begin the season with a 50-game suspension for recreational drug use, then will likely report to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Miami Marlins prospect Justin Nicolino, meanwhile, threw five shutout innings against the St. Louis Cardinals yesterday.

***The Texas Rangers got really prospecty with their lineup yesterday, with prospects Luis Sardinas, Roughned Odor, Nomar Mazara, Joey Gallo, and Lewis Brinson all opening up against the Diamondbacks, with Jorge Alfaro and Odubel Herrera also seeing at-bats.

***I need three more Twitter followers to get to 7,000. Help me out here guys!
