Weekend Suggestion Thread
Don't expect anything but CWS threads this weekend. Jeri has convinced me (again) that working seven days a week is not healthy, and I need to visit my mom in Iowa anyway. I will pop in here occasionally to make sure everyone is behaving, but don't expect any of the normal features until Monday morning.
We will resume normal operational status on Monday with Prospect of the Day and Minor League Notes. You can, if you like, use this thread for more suggestions. I've going to do Chad Billingsley and Matt Cain for Career Profiles this coming week and have some other special features planned as well.

Maybe a prospect of the day piece. How excited should we be?

I would like to know if Gustavo Pierre
is a legitmate prospect or was the hyp that he had coming to the Jays in 08 a mirage?
At the moment he has been demoted to Bluevale from Lansing—- is batting a combined .184 ,14 SB ,57 SO, 38 errors and has a pile of $ from the Jays that he is not earning.

Jonny Venters...
Where do you think his numbers will finish up this year, and how sustainable is his leap forward?

Venters
It’s for real. He was pretty dominant last year, so improving upon a strong rookie year is normal. Remember this kid was a starter in the minors as recently as last year, so he’s still adjusting to the role.

Always good to take some time off for a little road trip.
You deserve it.
My only suggestions were for Minor League Reports that I had included in the last one (I won’t type it all out — you could just revisit the last report):
Stephen Parker:
Tommy Mendonca
Individually and contrasting them
Thanks, and enjoy your time off.

F-Mart
I may be overly obsessed but id love a prospect of the day on him. Seems like he’s turning into an Andy Marte minus the playing time chances.

Prospect Smackdown: Taijuan Walker - Carlos Martinez
seems like T Walker and C Mart always get mentioned in the same breath…it’d be interesting to see what you think, Mr. Sickels

not sure if there is enough out there for a piece
But maybe something on the vsl and dsl and how graduates are doing and how those leagues compare to the gcl and other American rookie leagues

Dodger prospect James Baldwin
He’s off to a great start in the Pioneer League. Is it still too soon to get a clear read on him?

Any new info on Joel Carreno?
I know he’s not talked about as a premium pitching prospect in the Jays sytem but has his stuff/velo improved.

Prospect Review: Tyler Clippard
One of the more divisive pitching prospects in recent memory (perhaps in part because he was a Yankee), who has now carved out an interesting role in which he’s excelled for several years.
Last significant mention here (based on a very quick search of John’s posts) was in 2007.

Young shortstops
Would love to know about some of the young guys in low minors like Xander Bogaerts and Orlando Calixte. Guys that aren’t too hyped but have some potential.
