2011 College World Series: Day Three Discussion Thread
Day Three of the College World Series gets going at 2 PM Eastern with a loser's bracket game, Texas against North Carolina in Game Five. I will predict that Texas wins this game by a 6-3 score and knocks the Tar Heels out of the tourney.
Game Six gets started around 7 PM Eastern, Vanderbilt against Florida. I think Vandy is a better team overall but I will predict a narrow 2-1 Gator win.

I think both games today will be very good to watch. All 4 teams should have shaken off their first-game jitters by now.
I have to disagree with John on the outcome of the first game. I don’t see any way that Texas scores 6 runs with their anemic offense. I also think that UNC won’t hit so poorly with RISP as they did against Vandy on Saturday. I look for UNC to eliminate Texas and score at least 6 runs today.
I do agree with John that Vandy should win the 2nd game against Florida, but I think there will be a lot more than 3 runs scored between the 2 teams. Vandy gets the edge due to the starting pitching. Whether it’s Johnson or Whitson taking the mound for Florida, I think the result will be a shaky start for Florida.

I misread the last sentence.

UNC wins 3-0
Two out of three ain’t bad - especially in baseball. I was right about the winner of game 1 and about the Longhorn’s anemic offense, but not about UNC’s ability to hit better with RISP. The Tar Heels left a lot of guys on base again. That’s going to come back and haunt them against Florida or Vandy on Wednesday if they don’t get it fixed.

Kent Emanuel is really good
In some tiny respects, he sort of makes me think of Hultzen as a freshman.
I wonder if Carolina brings back Johnson for the next game instead of going with Munnelly.

My guess is that they go with Johnson if they play Florida and Munnelly if they play Vandy.

Agreed on Emanuel being really good
Got my first look at him in the game against UVa, and I was thoroughly impressed.
