**I went to the KU/Creighton baseball game last night to take a look at third baseman Tony Thompson, who was a projected first round pick a couple of months ago. The Jayhawk star has missed the entire season with a knee injury and this was his first game back. There were at least six scouts in attendance to check him out. Thompson is a power-hitting third baseman with a good glove, and it will be interesting to see how much the injury impacts his stock. He went 0-for-4 and his timing at the plate was obviously subpar; his swing looked sluggish. But he ran okay in the field and didn't show any diminution in fielding range compared to when I saw him last year. KU coach Ritch Price mentioned that this is basically spring training for Thompson, so the slow first game is understandable.
**My personal answer to yesterday's discussion question would be either Jeremy Hellickson or Mike Leake.
