75-25, really?

Has there ever been a WS matchup where one team wins 75% of the time?

by wcw on Oct 24, 2025 2:53 AM EDT reply actions

I think people are more convinced of the Rangers overall offense and decent starting pitching

Than the Giants really good starting pitching and lackluster offense.

Fans are typically idiots.

That's the way I see it.

Baseball makes the world go 'round, or at least in my world it does.

Decent starting pitching?

You think Cliff Lee, CJ Wilson, and Colby Lewis is just “decent”?

Go Rice Owls!

by JBImaknee on Oct 24, 2025 4:53 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm not disagreeing with you

I just think Whiteyballer might be saying that because of Colby Lewis not really showing anything before this season and CJ Wilson pretty much being a reliever in the years prior to this season.

Age old formula

In the playoffs, better pitching beats better hitting. Period.

The wind is in the buffalo.

75-25

those numbers don’t actually represent the percentages voters would assign to the two teams, I don’t think. That is, I bet if you gave a lot of the Texas voters 3:1 odds to bet on SF, they would take it.

by BringBa on Oct 24, 2025 5:14 AM EDT up reply actions

then it should be 100-0

..which clearly is wrong in baseball. It’s right in football, which is why football bettors have point spreads.

I...don't follow.

75% of folks think that the Rangers will win. If John had polled other playoff series — say, Phils - Giants or Phils - Reds — you would have probably found similar results.

No one is saying there is actually a 75% chance the Rangers will win. 75% think the Rangers are >50% likely to win, which is pretty reasonable.

Really?

What a surprise? A Yankees fan picking against the Rangers after the way we absolutely destroyed them.

This series will be closer than what others are predicting but the Rangers have been the more impressive team while facing tougher competition so far in this postseason. They should be able to win it in 6 but I could also see the Giants beating us in 5 or 6 also.

by Hook 'em Horns on Oct 24, 2025 4:45 PM EDT up reply actions

well actually

i’m picking the Giants because I think they will win. Wouldnt suprise me at all if the Rangers won and it wouldnt upset me at all if they did. You guys played much better and deserved it. No hard feelings

Rangers in 5.

by packimop on Oct 24, 2025 2:08 PM EDT reply actions

+1

I made the same prediction earlier today with a friend. It’s either Rangers in 5 or Giants in 7.

Close Call

I’ll take the Giants for depth of SP and a superior manager, really don’t like how Washington has managed his bullpen this post season.

by ribman on Oct 24, 2025 5:42 PM EDT reply actions

Superior manager?

Bochy looks like he’s tanked (drunk) by the 5th inning… Seriously, I truly dislike Bochy as a manager, but I’m looking at his overall scope of his Giants history. Granted, he’s done well with his handling of players this postseason, but that the same time, the Rangers’ offense is hitting and the pitching should give the Giants issues.

Rangers fan here, so take my call for what it's worth.

But I’ll go Rangers in 5.

Cliff wins twice, Rangers take 2 of the other 3.

by nivarsity on Oct 24, 2025 7:37 PM EDT reply actions

Rangers in 4!

Because I’m going to game 4 and want my first world series game to be when the Rangers win the World Series!!!

Extremely reasonable logic. :)

Lee - Lincecum… 4-1 Rangers
Wilson- Sanchez… 7-3 Rangers
Colby - Cain …. 6-4 Rangers
Holland/Hunter - Bumgarner … 6-5 Rangers (Hammy Walkoff)

Of course my predictions mean nothing because this is just what I want to happen.

I picked the Giants at the start of the year!

Actually, I didn’t make any playoff predictions, but still - pitching does win games.

He wasn't the only one

That thread is a gold mine. The Aubrey huff and melky cabrera>brett Gardner parts were my favorites.

Shocked

I’m shocked that the vote is that far off.

Giants have better pitching and better coaching.

I do have one request though. Can we please get Nolan Ryan to smile once in a while when he’s in the stands? He’s the angriest owner I’ve ever seen on TV.
