Alcides Escobar Up
The Brewers are looking to shake things up and made a bunch of moves. How do you think this will work out for the Brewers. Will Escobar have enough bat to be a capable lead off hitter? Is this the last of JJ Hardy, or will he be in the 3rd base mix, and what of Matt Gamel? And with Bourgeios up is Hart the next to go?

Hart
What happened to him? He was such a promising OF who seemed to easily put up 20/20 numbers, then this year happened…

Despite the 20/20 season last year
Hart was one of the worst corner OF in terms of wOBA in 2008. His horrible plate discipline is what kills him.

Horrible plate discipline....
is an understatement. I lost all faith last September, his average dipped 20 points and he struck out 21 times to 3 BB. In a pennant race mind you . I actually threw up watching some of his AB’s in the NLDS. 2007 seems like a lifetime ago.

When I saw
him a few weeks ago, he just looked lost at the plate. Swinging at pitches that weren’t even close and missing by a lot on others. Much different than I remember him looking last year, no confidence at all in his swing or approach. It would be interesting to see his swing from 07 vs this years side by side. I wonder if his mechanics haven’t just fallen apart.

Interesting note on Hardy

Apparently if the Brewers keep Hardy in the minors until the end of the MiLB season it will cause him to fall just under the service time needed to make him eligible for FA after the 2010 season. That should definitely make him more marketable on the trade market — an excellent defender at SS under 2 years of team control should still have solid trade value.

Well, if anyone needed proof that optional waivers are a dead letter,
Hardy getting through them proves it. They really should just take that rule out in the next CBA.
It’s kind of an iffy move, IMO, because Hardy is likely to be really angry about it. Won’t do them much good if he starts mailing it in out of anger.

It'd of course do him worse
To start mailing it in…

Of course it would
Doesn’t mean it won’t happen… actually, “mailing it in” per se is less likely than just performing poorly because he’s on tilt constantly. Anger does not enhance most players’ hitting ability. (Milton Bradley might be an exception that proves the rule…)

I know the
Twins showed a little interest last offseason. I think it was rumored the Brewers wanted Slowey back in return and the Twins had no interest in that. If he could turn things around he would be a pretty good addition to their lefty heavy line up

Similar player to Andrus
I can see him having the same impact on Milwaukee’s staff, and record, as Andrus has had for the Rangers.
I propose a 5-year moratorium on trading any young Ranger pitchers who throw over 90 mph.

Hardy
was statistically the second best defensive SS in baseball this season

It's not just a matter of being a steady fielder.
It’s being able to take hits away.

Hardy's UZR 8.7
Andrus’s 7.8. Not that i completely trust that. RngR 6.7 for hardy this year to i think 7.8 for Andrus. 10.7 in 2008 for hardy, 2007 14.3. Hardy is a good fielder it seems, however. He doesn’t steal a ton of bases or blidingly fast but he has range.
