Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Gameday discussion thread for Thursday, September 7th, 2017.
I know some of you in Florida and along the eastern seaboard are battening down and/or evacuating as Hurricane Irma approaches. Please err on the side of caution, heed evacuation orders, and protect your families and loved ones. Property is replaceable. People are not.
Let’s talk about baseball.
****Today’s Minor League Scoreboard
****Yesterday’s highlights can be found in Wednesday’s discussion thread.
****Analysis of all the deadline trades involving prospects can be found here.
COOL STUFF THAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY
****Atlanta Braves prospect Luiz Gohara made his major league debut against the Texas Rangers, giving up six runs on four hits and four walks in four innings, while fanning six. He was clocked up to 97 MPH but clearly has some work to do with his secondary pitches and command. Given that he was in A-ball four months ago, this is understandable.
****Miami Marlins rookie lefty Dillon Peters made his second major league start, giving up three runs over five innings to the Washington Nationals. We profiled him earlier today.
****In the Midwest League playoffs, Minnesota Twins prospect Lewin Diaz went 3-for-4 with three doubles and four RBI for the Cedar Rapids Kernels. He hit .292/.329/.444 during the regular season.
****In additional Midwest League action, San Diego Padres pitching prospect Michel Baez threw seven shutout innings for the Fort Wayne TinCaps, fanning nine while allowing five hits and one walk.
