Julio Mendez had to receive emergency medical attention in scary event Saturday night.

Philadelphia Phillies v Milwaukee Brewers

Something you never want to see in a game status, “Completed Early: Emergency.” Unfortunately, that is exactly how the AZL Brewers-AZL Angels game ended on Saturday night when Brewers third baseman Julio Mendez was reportedly hit in the chest with a pitch and had a cardiac event. First hand reports state Mendez received CRP and defibrillators were used to revive him.

The Milwaukee Brewers released a statement on Sunday (per Baseball America):

“Last night, Julio Mendez, a member of the Arizona (R) Brewers affiliate, suffered a cardiac event after being hit by a pitch in a game played in Tempe, Arizona. After receiving treatment on the field, he was taken to a local hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.”

“All of our thoughts and prayers are with Julio and his family,” Brewers general manager David Stearns said in the statement. “We will provide updates as soon as we know more.”

The 19-year old was signed in 2013 out of Venezuela and has played for the DSL Brewers, AZL Brewers, and Helena Brewers in his minor league career.
