Which pair of prospects would you want?

We have 8-man minor league rosters, and our league tends to value hitting prospects more than pitching prospects. Would you rather have:

Rendon + a prospect from the 50-70 range overall (looking at the community list, someone like Zach Lee, Tyrell Jenkins, Jedd Gyorko, or Starling Marte, among others)

or. . . Skaggs + the number 5 pick (either Cole, Bundy or Hultzen).

Rendon could either be a franchise player in this league or he could bring an excellent return in trade this year. On the other hand, if Skaggs plus the #5 pick both turn into top of the rotation guys, that would be really valuable as well.

Which pair would you want?

Thanks.

I'd be looking at the Skaggs/Hultzen combo.

Hultzen just happens to be my favorite of the 3 you mentioned. That pairing would be soooo much safer then Rendon and whoever, and they still have significant upside as well.

Well this is pretty easy for me

Rendon and Skaggs are pretty close in my rankings, so the addition of a Cole/Bundy/Hultzen far outweighs a Zach Lee/Starling Marte type player.

FYI - Cole is a top 10 guy for me, and Bundy is awfully close. This is a very easy choice.

Certainly in real baseball. . .

GMs would take Skaggs + Cole over Rendon + another prospect.

In our league, where hitting prospects have much more value, it’s closer. Rendon will bring more in trade than either pitcher, and if he proves to be healthy, will be a better keeper. Plus, the league’s aversion to pitching means that the second guy could be a fairly highly-rated pitching prospect. I have no idea exactly how the prospect draft will go, but someone like AJ Cole, Syndergaard or Jenkins could be there, so it’s not like it will be Rendon + garbage.

I’m leaning towards the two pitchers myself, but given the peculiarities of the GMs in our league, it’s not incredibly lopsided either way.

Thanks for all of your input. . . even if the guy who mentioned the trade retracts his suggestion (a possibility, especially if he’s reading this now), it’s been an interesting little debate.
