John Stilson Impressions

PrintI will have a full report about this weekend's Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma games on Monday, but I did want to give you a really basic impression of John Stilson first. He was hitting 90-92 last night on three different guns that I could see, which was not as fast as I was expecting, though the fastball had really good movement and life. Breaking ball and changeup were erratic early but he settled down with them. He works VERY quickly, little time between pitches, which I like.

and what are some comps for him?

Behind home plate I thought his mechanics looked kind of funky and awkward, over the top delivery. From the third base and first base sides it looked smoother. His release point varied and he telegraphed a few pitches but his stuff had a ton of movement.
