Preliminary Minnesota Twins Prospect List for 2011
Here is a preliminary list of interesting prospects in the Minnesota Twins system for the 2011 book. There are 45 guys here; I originally had 56 players of interest and cut that down. I need to cut at least three more and preferably five due to space limits.
Feel free to suggest other players for inclusion. . .it is easy to miss players when I start doing this. . .but if you suggest someone, suggest a cut too.

my thoughts...
Don’t cut Rams, for sure.
It’s Manuel Soliman.
Of all those names, the one I would probably cut first would be Jean Mijares. That might be about it…

we've had this discussion before
but what are the top 5 or so prospects in the twins system? Gibson, Hicks, Wimmers, Sano, and … Arcia? On the surface, this looks like a fairly mediocre system at first glance, but there’s a bunch of names (mostly Latin American kids) that I don’t recognize. I’m curious who I should be watching for.
I am a big, big fan of Liam Hendriks, though.

Hendriks #5
Arcia would be 6 for me. He has a superior ceiling to Hendriks, but Liam’s floor has a greater edge IMO. Maybe not a 1 or 2, but barring health, I feel pretty comfortable projecting Hendriks into a major league rotation. Too much that can go wrong with Arcia at this point, particularly considering he’s not really a tool guy and will be reliant on the bat to carry him. The difference in his plate approach and K/AB between this year and past ones is pretty staggering; need to see how he adjusts to better pitching in full-season ball. Could see the argument for Benson at 5 as well, if you believe in him being able to close up enough of the holes in his swing; I don’t, but the ceiling if he can matches anyone other than Hicks.

I can see a case for Hendriks over Arcia
I actually forgot about Benson and would probably take him over both right now. While a big fan of Hendriks, I’m not certain what his ceiling is. I don’t think it’s end of the rotation, but I’m not confident that a best case scenario for him is a mid-rotation type arm.
by toonsterwu on Oct 12, 2025 9:31 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, strictly going on ceiling, Hendriks may not be top 10 in the system. But, I love his command of 4 solid pitches and willingness to use them all in any count to keep hitters off balance. I think he has a median outcome of Scott Baker, and can’t help but think he resembles Hellickson a fair bit. Few prospects I’ll be more interested to see tackle the AA barrier in 2011.

For me
Hicks
Gibson
Wimmers
Sano
Benson
It may not be elite, but I like this system. I’m hoping Max Kepler does big things.

Question...
If this was a draft, who do you think of those 5 would be 1st? Same order? Just curious.

That's how I value them
I’m sure others will have Sano higher

Top 10-12 system overall toonsterwu

I believe Van Mil was traded to the Angels for Fuentes

I still like...
Ben Tootle. He can approach triple-digits with his fastball and even thought he didn’t have a great season due to his wildness, he could still have a quite a future in relief. I’d add Tootle and drop Van Mil as he’s not with the Twins anymore.

if he can recover from shoulder surgery.

Hicks
After a disappointing year, i’m curious where you’d rank him (or range if you don’t know exactly right now) in the top 100? If you are really bullish, pls. explain.
by BryceHarper on Oct 12, 2025 10:12 PM EDT reply actions
I'm a tools hound...
so I still have him in my top 10 while others I’ve seen to him have in their top 20.

I can't keep him in the top-10 right now, I think you have to wonder about the power potential now
I still think really highly of him because of the all-around tools, particularly given his upside as a defensive CF, but top-10 would seem to be pretty aggressive for me.

I'm not sure if he'd be top 10 for me or not (I'm guessing he would get edged out)
But he would certainly be in the mix. I just don’t think his season was all that disappointing. He’s definitely an elite prospect for me.

Yeah, he's still my top Twin
I like Gibson, Sano, Wimmers, Benson, Morales and those guys, but Hicks still has some absolutely huge upside.
And I can’t tell you how many times I had to try to convince people that while Hicks’ season was a tad disappointing, there were still a lot of things to like. Yeah, his K rate went from 18.5% to 21.5%… but he also showed a tad more power, increased his walk rate, improved his SB efficiency, and continued to flash huge defensive potential.
I mean, in his final 305 PA from June 1 to the end of the season, he batted .302/.426/.470. I know there are some issues, but he’s still a great prospect.

Agreed
Top 10 MLB seems way too high. Lets actually see the production for a change.

ya
he’s around #30 for me. We’ve seen guys like Hosmer and Moose rebound after completely falling off most ppl’s top prospect radars. I’m hoping it’s the same for Hicks, but going to the cozy pitching confines of the FSL isn’t exactly what the doctor ordered for a breakout.
by BryceHarper on Oct 13, 2025 4:31 PM EDT up reply actions
Hicks' 2010 was better than either Moose or Hosmer's 2009, though
Not to mention that Hicks is a plus defensive center field and the other two, well, aren’t.
A Hosmer-like breakout for Hicks would make him the best prospect in the game.

Given the Twins’ general tendency to take it slow with prospects, is there really that much of a difference between where Hicks is now and where Cam Maybin was at the same time in his development? The difference, I would argue, is that Hicks can actually do what he’s doing now at the Major League level and succeed, since he does not have nearly the BB/K and GB% issues that Maybin did.

Pinto
I know his BA/OBP suffered in the Midwest league, but not even a top-40 prospect? Just wondering if it’s a little early to give up on a kid who doesn’t turn 22 until Mar 31.

I still need three more cuts. Pinto can be restored but gotta dump others too. Thinking Daniel Ortiz might go.

i'd say no on Ortiz John
only because he hit like a half dozen long bombs in the season’s final month …
I’d cut Miguel Munoz, Edgar Ibarra
Ibarra is rather an easy cut for me, and possibly Osterbrock because he only throws mid 80’s currently.

Yeah, Ortiz is likely to get cut…Munoz and Ibarra, for some reason, I am intrigued with. Osterbrock may go but I kind of like him too despite the velocity.

Also I like a different catcher than the ones you currently have listed
that is Jair Fernandez AA Easter League
maybe not too much more than Rams or Pinto but definately before any other guy at catcher
