Tim Bascom promoted....
…from Hi A to AA as well. Although Bascom isn’t a big prospect.

Bumgarner was supposed to pitch today...
but according to milb.com, McNiven is scheduled. Anyone know what’s going on?

Weird question
Was Nick Barnese traded? Firstinning.com has him on the White Sox, while Baseball Cube has him on the Reds. Did something happen?

Do you have any idea
why both of those sites think he was, and to different teams?

I have a question
Has anybody heard whether or not Bryce Harper is going to try to enter the 2010 MLB draft and how his progress has been? Don’t know if this is the best place to post the question, but I didn’t want to make it a fanpost.

I guess he will try
that is the speculation anyway. He will go to a JC for his GE and then enter the draft. If that doesn’t work then he will have to enter in 2011.

Andrew Lambo
0-5, 2 Ks. Season line now at .260 /.314/.411.

Loved Lambo at the beginning of the season.
At this point, that’s wearing off a little bit. It’s encouraging that he’s cut down on his strikeouts, but the walks and power haven’t developed like you’d hope. It doesn’t mean he’s not a good prospect, it just might take him a little while to move on from AA.

he's still top 75.
even if it takes him 3 years to click in AA, he’ll still just be 23/24 years old, and his upside will be no less massive.
you can’t take your eye off the ball with a guy like him, and two months of middling performance right now is nothing more.
human beings, who are almost unique in their ability to learn from the experiences of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

Oh yeah, I agree.
He’s still a very good prospect. For a while there earlier in the year though, I could’ve seen him making the jump to great (hitting) prospect, the way Snider did in his age 20 season. That was probably a little optimistic.
by PissedMick on Jun 12, 2025 10:55 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah, he's only 20
Lambo put up basically the same numbers as Mike Moustakas did last year in the Midwest League (with a higher OPS). Moustakas is hitting .267/.307/.433 in a level lower than Lambo. I’m not sure Lambo was truly ready for Double-A, and he needs to improve in pretty much ALL phases of hitting, let’s put this into perspective against the number two overall selection from the same draft class.
Sorry I keep comparing Lambo and Moustakas (for well over a year now), but they are both California prep lefty hitters from the same draft class. One went second overall and caught smoked marijuana cigarettes in junior high, so his makeup issues dropped him to the fourth round.

McAllister
This guy, in my humble opinion, is flying extremely below radar.
In 11 starts at AA his line is as follows:
5 wins, 2 Losses, 1.60 ERA, 67.1 IP, 54 H, 19 R, 12 ER, 2 HR, 20BB, 49 K. 1.10 WHIP
AVG Against: .220
GO/AO: 1.00
What am I missing with this guy? Is he ever going to materialize or are the Yanks going to discount him and let him blow away in the breeze?

ehhh
His walk rate is too high for his strike out rate.
His batting average against will go down. He is getting above normal infield flies. His BABIP is only .265. The infield flies, are around what he is normally getting, but as he faces better competition I doubt that is something he would like to rely on.
The line drive rate could be a fluke, but the HR/FB rate of .29 is definitely off.
His FIP is actually 3.30, but as the HR numbers come back to normal that will change.
Remember: baseball guys... baseball...

Negative Much?
I don’t really think his K/BB is too bad. His BAA is .220 - which is pretty in line with the .233 BAA that he posted last year. His HR rate may normalize a bit - but he is historically a GB type so it’s probably not going to explode. I think 4HR allowed would be about normal based on his historical performance - I don’t think it would change his performance too much.
I tend to agree with the original poster that he’s a bit under the radar because he doesn’t post sexy numbers. All he has done is post a sub-2.00 ERA with decent peripherals while being pretty young for his leagues. I definitely don’t think he profiles as an ace but I see no reason to think he’s not an innings eater #3-#4. Recently, the Yanks could use a guy like that.

He's good
But he’s not great. His FIP is 8th in the league, more than half a point behind people like Marc Rzepczynski. Ryan Pope, who was rated something like #28 in John’s list of Yankee prospects leading into the year, has the same FIP at the same level in the same park. Now, Pope was probably better than people thought, and Rzepczynski isn’t a bad pitcher either, but neither of them are exactly stars. In other words, I agree with you when you say that McAllister (and the others) have a solid shot of becoming #3-4s.

When somebody points out that a pitcher is benefitting from a lucky BABIP...
it’s typically not a strong move to counter with his low BAA.
by PissedMick on Jun 12, 2025 6:25 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Okay
How about pointing out the fact that his BABIP last year was .278 and (so .265 is not a huge jump) and that wtih his LD% (14.8%) that there is no reason to expect a huge increase.
I didn’t really feel like getting into a huge argument about McAllister - statistical or otherwise. Is he the next Brandon Webb - almost certainly not. But even with some regression he is looking like a very useful pitcher. That makes him underrated in my book…
by Dfarth on Jun 12, 2025 6:33 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Ah
I actually short changed him - 14.8% is his career LD% - his LD% this year is 12.1%.
by Dfarth on Jun 12, 2025 6:37 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Minor league LD% is a worthless number.
The kid’s strikeout rate isn’t any good. Up until this year, you could say he at least doesn’t walk anyone. He keeps the ball on the ground a reasonable amount, so maybe if he can get back to the microscopic walk rate he could have a decent shot at success up the ladder. Banking on small-sample minor league BABIP luck certainly isn’t going to bag you many winners though.
