Hypothetical Question

New, 65 comments

A hypothetical question for you.

Let's say your son is a high school pitcher, we'll call him "Bob Fireball." He's 6-3, 175 pounds...lanky, projectable, throws 86-88 MPH right now, has a very good changeup, but a below average breaking ball. Clean mechanics, good control. Let's say he's also very bright, wants to go to college but also wants to play pro ball eventually, and you want him to go to college. And let's say you live on the West Coast, say, oh, I dunno, Sacramento.

Scouts tell you that right now your son would be something like an eighth-tenth round pick, but that if he goes to college and fills out his frame, picks up a breaking ball, he could make BIG MONEY in three years. The colleges agree, and you've got several scholarship offers on the table. The following colleges from the West have offered him a scholarship. It is up to you where he goes...which one do you pick?

Arizona
Arizona State
Cal State Fullerton
Long Beach State
Pepperdine
San Diego State
UCLA
UC Riverside
USC
Washington

Poll question in the comment thread. We will ask similar questions about the Midwest and East soon.
