Guess the Prospect!

I was a 17th round draft pick, as a college pitcher from the University of Tennessee. I made my pro debut in the New York-Penn League and pitched well, going 5-3, 2.60 in 12 starts, with a 98/20 K/BB in 97 innings. But, as shown by my draft status, I wasn't considered a top prospect since I didn't have a hot fastball.

I was impressive in spring training the next year and opened the season in Double-A. I pitched well, going 10-6 with a 2.47 ERA, although my K/BB deteriorated to 82/42 in 135 innings, plus I gave up more than a hit per inning. I was traded to another organization in a minor trade that summer, and promoted directly to the major leagues, where I was used as a swingman by a weak team, posting a 4.34 ERA in 29 innings.

I was in the major league starting rotation the next spring, a rapid rise for a 17th round pick! I spent a long time in the Show, pitching well at times but not so well at other times. My K/IP ratio was usually very poor, but I survived because I threw strikes and kept the ball down.

Who am I?
