Jim Fasano, 1B, Clinton Lumberkings (Rangers Class A)
Hit .302/.362/.457 in 98 games, 21 doubles, 10 homers, 36 walks, 62 strikeouts in 394 at-bats. Ninth-round pick from University of Richmond in 2004. A huge guy, stands 6-5, 240, and looks it. Usually swings early in the count, but makes hard contact, even on pitches outside the strike zone. Plus bat speed, among the best I saw this year. Statistically, his strikeout rate is reasonable for a power hitter, but it will be interesting to see if his batting average and OBP can hold up at higher levels. Running speed is good for a guy his size. At 22, he's not young for the Midwest League, so I want to see what he does at higher levels before going overboard with praise.
