SOUTH ATLANTIC LEAGUE
POSITION PLAYER: Asheville outfielder Matthew Miller, who finished second in the league with a .331 average, second in slugging percentage, second in homers with 30, and drove in 100 runs. The other main candidate was teammate Joe Koshansky.
STARTING PITCHER: The two best candidates are Kannapolis lefty Ray Liotta (8-3, 2.26) and Lexington righty James Barthmaier (11-6, 2.27), who finished one-two in the ERA hunt. I will go with Barthmaier, who was third in the league in wins and posted a stronger K/IP ratio than Liotta.
CLOSER: Greensboro closer Chris Mobley led the circuit with 34 saves, posted a 2.23 ERA, and fanned 74 guys in 61 innings. Savannah's Brett Campbell posted a superior 1.69 ERA, but his K/IP was less impressive and he picked up "just" 19 saves.
