From the glorious Super 8 Motel in the metropolis of Burlington, Iowa.
Good game, if cold, last night. The photos I took did not turn out very well. . .the lighting at the stadium is pretty bad. Good post-able photos may have to wait until Wednesday's day game.
I still saw some very interesting stuff last night, especially on the pitching side. Burlington starter Luis Cota (a high-profile draft-and-follow guy for the Royals), worked at 89-93 MPH, his fastball sitting at 91 most of the time, with movement. He also has a sharp slider, and a good changeup that he needs to use more often. West Michigan starter Josh Kauten worked at 87-90, although he supposedly hit 95 MPH in college for Illinois State last year. His best pitch was a very nasty overhand curveball. Both pitchers showed good command and mound presence.
I had a nice talk with Dallas Trahern, who was working the video camera for West Michigan. The Tigers prospect is a very personable and intelligent young man. More about him later.
Use this as a thread for suggestions. Are there any Burlington or West Michigan players you want me to pay particular attention to?
