Colt Griffin of the Wichita Wranglers

This is from my newsletter report about last night's game.

Colt Griffin, RHP
I finally got to see the infamous 2001 draft pick. Literally every time I would make an effort to see Colt Griffin the last three years, the game would be rained out or the schedule changed. I didn't see any 100 MPH fastballs out of him. In fact, his velocity was rather disappointing.
Hitter by hitter for Colt Griffin (9th inning)

Eric Riggs leads off the inning.
89 MPH fastball, low for ball one
88 MPH fastball, low and away for ball two
87 MPH fastball, down the middle for strike one
88 MPH fastball, low and away for ball three
81 MPH slider, strike two
91 MPH fastball down the middle, pulled to right field, HOME RUN.

Carlos Rodriguez comes to bat
88 MPH fastball, to the backstop, ball one
90 MPH fastball, down the middle, strike one
90 MPH fastball, down the middle, strike two
89 MPH fastball, low, ball two
91 MPH fastball, in the dirt, ball three
84 MPH slider, fouled off
84 MPH slider, ground ball back to Griffin, 1-3 putout, 1 out

Pat Peavy comes to bat
89 MPH fastball, down the middle, strike one
90 MPH fastball, low, ball one
90 MPH fastball, low, ball two
95 MPH fastball, lined to shortstop, putout 6 unassisted, 2 outs.

Josh Anderson comes to bat
84 MPH slider, in the dirt, ball one
89 MPH fastball, low, ball two
89 MPH fastball, high, ball three
91 MPH fastball, low, ball four, Anderson walks

Brooks Conrad comes to bat
90 MPH fastball, outside, ball one
89 MPH fastball, down the middle, strike one
89 MPH fastball, down the middle, strike two
92 MPH fastball, fouled back behind screen
85 MPH slider, Conrad caught looking, strikeout, 3 outs.

As you can see, Griffin hit 95 MPH once but was otherwise in the 89-90 range on most fastballs. He only threw five sliders.
