Some Notable Fast Starts

Billy Butler, 3B, Kansas City: 7-for-18, 2 homers, 4 walks in 5 games (Class A High Desert). Quick start for the 2004 first-round pick, showing power and plate discipline. The California League helps him, but he's only 19.

Matt Moses, 3B, Minnesota: 7-for-17, 2 homers, 3 walks, only 2 strikeouts in 5 games (Class A Fort Myers). 2003 first-rounder was limited by a bad back in '04, appears healthy now.

Greg Golson, OF, Philadelphia: 8-for-21 (.381) with a double in 5 games (Class A Lakewood). Plate discipline needs work: 1 walk, 4 strikeouts so far, but the hits are falling. Great physical tools.

Walter Young, 1B, Baltimore: 10-for-20 with a homer, 3 walks, 2 doubles in 5 games for Triple-A Ottawa. Is he David Ortiz or Sam Horn? Probably in between.

Dave Krynzel, Of, Milwaukee: 8-for-17 (.471), 3 doubles, a triple, a homer, 3 walks, in 5 games for Triple-A Nashville. He's always had the tools; can he maintain this? I still think he is destined for bench work. Teammate Rickie Weeks is 5-for-17 (.291) thus far.

Dustin Pedroia, SS, Boston: 6-for-16 (.375) with 4 walks in 5 games, ZERO strikeouts for Double-A Portland. Stathead favorite is off to a fine start in Double-A.

Josh Fields, 3B, Chicago White Sox: 5-for-15 with 5 walks in 5 games for Double-A Birmingham. 2004 first-round pick is controlling the strike zone well so far.
