"I've cheated, or someone on my team has cheated, in almost every single game I've been in."---Rogers Hornsby
Here is your discussion thread for Friday.
You don't have to talk about this, but I've had some people ask me what I think about the steroid issue, so I should weigh in.
There is a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth going on about the steroid scandal. I don't know if all of Jose Canseco's allegations are true or not, but it should be pointed out that "performance enhancement" has been going on in baseball for a long time. An awful lot of players used speed in the 60s and 70s.
Cheating in one way or another has been around the game since the very beginning. It doesn't make it right, of course. But I see the steroid thing as part of the general continuum of baseball and human nature, not something really out of place or unusual. It's against the rules now and that's a good thing, but anyone professing shock about the fact that this occured needs to review some facts about human nature.
