With the season coming to an end, I want to start a new feature called John's Favorites, brief expositions on my favorite players and prospects. THESE ARE PERSONAL FAVORITES, not necessarily the best players or the best prospects. Nothing really analytical here, just an appreciation for the guys I really like.
Today's topic is John's Current Favorite Superstar, Vlad "The Impaler" Guerrero.
Why I Like Him:
Guerrero is my favorite current superstar because he's just so damn smooth, if that makes any sense.
Just look at his numbers to see what I mean: .317/.393/.565 is a great line, of course, but what I really love is a bit deeper in the numbers: 13 steals in 14 attempts, for example. A 60/48 BB/K ratio in 517 at-bats. How many guys can hit 32 homers and 28 doubles while striking out just 40 times in a full season of play? Smooth, I tell you, smooth.
