Kyle Gibson spent most of 2012 working his way back from Tommy John surgery. This looks like a success, as he threw very well in the Arizona Fall League, hitting 92-94 MPH while showing a very impressive slider and changeup. Gibson's velocity was up-and-down since a forearm stress fracture in 2009, and the TJ-related rehab may help him maintain his peak velocities more easily now. He has always had a good feel for pitching, with sharp command of his secondary pitches as well as the fastball. Assuming no further health concerns, Gibson has a good chance to open 2013 in the Minnesota rotation. I think he projects as a solid number three starter, but if he maintains the zip on his fastball, he could outperform those expectations. Grade B.
