Around SBN: Report: Lakers Will Sign Antawn Jamison

Joe Terdoslavich

What is the upside here? Can he take over for Chipper Jones in 2013? Reading the press on Joe T., he seems like the best offensive prospect in the Braves system. Shattered a 65-year old record for doubles in the Carolina league. Knocked 20 HR. Pedigree of University Miami/Long Beach State for college. MLB lineage: Mike Greenwall's nephew. I am wondering whether last season was a fluke since he didn't hit more than 2 HR the previous season or legit? Can he make the transition to 3B and how does he compare to Salcedo?

I don't really think there's much of a chance he can stick at 3B

Its hard to really know what he can be offensively. The numbers last year were obviously encouraging, but that should really be expected from a college hitter who played at major programs and doesn’t project to provide any defensive value if he wants to stay a relevant prospect. The big test will be in AA next year. If he can continue hitting like he did last year, I’ll start getting a little more excited about his bat. As of now, I’m not expecting much from him.

Prado

Martin Prado will be Atlanta’s starting 3B in 2013. Terdoslavich was a nice story last year, especially in the AFL, but he is more than a year away from a big league job and has to prove his hitting ability at higher levels AND that he can play 3rd at an acceptable level. Let’s not count our chickens before they hatch here.

If anything

I can see the Braves trying to transition him into a corner OF spot…

I have trouble seeing either transition being especially successful

But I agree, a move to a corner OF spot seems much more likely than the possibility of him sticking at 3B long term.

His age is worrying though

He was 22 for most of the season, and is now 23. So it is a possibility that he was just overwhelming a bunch of younger guys. His BB% wasn’t great either.
