Community discussion: Red Sox vs. Yankees vs. the future

New, 13 comments

Who would you rather be for 2019 and beyond?

MLB: New York Yankees at Boston Red Sox Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

Here’s a discussion question to get the blood flowing on this Wednesday morning.

The Boston Red Sox have a 99-46 record and a nine-game lead in the 2018 American League Eastern Division. The New York Yankees are in second place with a 90-55 record.

The Sox are having an historic season and have a talented young core of players centered around Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, Xander Bogaerts, and Rafael Devers. The Yankees are also an excellent team and have their own set of young stars including Gleyber Torres, Miguel Andujar, Luis Severino, and Aaron Judge.

Question for the community:

Looking ahead for 2019 through, say, 2023, would you rather be the Red Sox or the Yankees? The Sox are better right now and have the core to stay excellent, but the Yankees have no shortage of young talent in the majors and have a deeper farm system to draw on for reinforcements and trade fodder.

So, what say you? Which team will be better in the coming years?
