Happy Bobby Bonilla Day all!
That mean’s it’s July, and half our summer is in the books. Welcome to the Minor League Ball Morning Report.
****Yesterday’s Gameday discussion is here.
**** Stop pitching to Kevin Cron. The Diamondbacks 25-year-old third base prospect closed out June with his seventh multi-hit game in his last ten and second multi-homer game this week.
**** Kody Clemens made his debut for the White Caps last night. It was an 0-fer, but as one of the most fun college bats to watch this year, it’s good to see him underway.
**** Touki Toussaint had a career-high 11 strikeouts last night in Mississippi. He should be climbing the ladder soon and be in Gwinnett shortly.
**** Logan Allen went seven innings of one-run ball, striking out 10 and walking one. Fernando Tatis, Jr. went 3-for-4 in the game with two home runs. The 2020 season for the Padres is going to be exciting.
**** Jordan Balazovic continues to be a menace to opposing hitters. The Twins 19-year-old righty went six shutout innings for Cedar Rapids, striking out ten and walking two. He’s struck our 36 in his last 23 innings.
**** Pablo Lopez looked pretty sharp in his Marlins debut. The 22-year-old righty went six strong, allowing two runs and striking out five while walking just one.
**** Our own Kris Dunn took a look at Tyler Mahle’s fantastic start to his career.
**** We concluded our look at the 25 times top prospects didn’t reach the hype in the 2000s. There were some good ones in the comments. I’m thinking Part IV: The Fan’s Choice is coming out this week.
**** Matt Eddy looked at the top power/speed prospects over at Baseball America.
**** Our weekly 3 prospects to watch comes out shortly. Who made the list this week?
