Hello everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Morning Report for Wednesday, June 13th, 2018. A few items:
***On June 13th, 1976, my parents were taking me to summer camp north of our home in Des Moines, Iowa. I was eight years old. On the way, we saw the tornado in today’s picture, an F5 that destroyed the small town of Jordan. Although there were thankfully no fatalities, tornado experts consider this to be one of the most intense and unusual tornadoes in American history. Dr. Theodore Fujita, inventor of the F-scale, himself said it was the strongest tornado he had ever studied.
If I were better with math and physics, I would have been a meteorologist instead of a writer because of seeing this storm.
As for baseball:
****Detroit Tigers prospect Jake Rogers hit three homers yesterday for Double-A Erie. He’s hitting just .184/.284/.322 overall, but hey, what a game.
****Los Angeles Angels prospect Griffin Canning threw 5.2 shutout innings for Double-A Mobile, allowing two hits and one walk with six strikeouts. He now has a 1.97 ERA in 46 innings with a 49/19 K/BB.
****Chicago White Sox prospect Lincoln Henzman threw seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit and zero walks, with six strikeouts for Low-A Kannapolis. A fourth round pick in 2017 from the University of Louisville, he has a 2.30 ERA in 67 innings with a 55/7 K/BB.
****Philadelphia Phillies prospect Enyel De Los Santos fired seven shutout innings for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He now has a 1.47 ERA in 73 innings with a 76/23 K/BB. I have to think we’ll see him soon.
****Yesterday’s Gameday discussion thread has more highlights.
