Good morning everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Morning Report for Saturday, May 5th, 2018.
****Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Walker Buehler threw six no-hit innings against the San Diego Padres, walking three while fanning eight. Dodgers relievers Tony Cingrani, Yimi Garcia, and Adam Liberatore didn’t give up any hits either, giving them a combined no-hitter. Buehler has made three starts for the Dodgers so far and has a 1.13 ERA in 16 innings with a 19/7 K/BB and 10 hits allowed.
****Texas Rangers pitching prospect A.J. Alexy fanned 12 over six shutout innings for Low-A Hickory, giving up one hit and three walks.
****Cleveland Indians prospect Francisco Mejia went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBI for Triple-A Columbus. He’s been off to a slow start at .198/.241/.321 overall.
****Philadelphia Phillies prospect Dylan Cozens went 2-for-5 with a home run for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He’s hitting .295/.390/.580 overall.
****Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Kyri Washington went 3-for-5 with three home runs and five RBI for High-A Salem. The 23 year old was drafted in the 23rd round in 2015 from Longwood University and is hitting .264/.376/.500 overall.
****Not a highlight per-Se since he hasn’t pitched in a couple of days, but Cleveland Indians pitching prospect Mitch Brown seems to have found his niche in relief. A second round pick in 2012, he has been consistently mediocre as a starter due to command problems but has shown greatly improved control in relief this year in Double-A, posting a 14/3 K/BB in 11 innings so far with one run allowed. His stuff has never been in question so if the command sticks around, maybe he still has some value.
****More highlights can be found in yesterday’s Gameday discussion thread.
