I am now working on the Toronto Blue Jays Top 20 Prospects for 2018 list. Keeping with the avian theme, the next (and last!) team in the queue is the St. Louis Cardinals. Once the Jays and Cardinals are written up, we will work on the Top 175 Prospects for 2018 list, while going back and reviewing all previous grades and making any final adjustments that seem necessary.
Use this thread to discuss the St. Louis Cardinals. Potential points for discussion include, but are by no means limited to:
****The Cardinals finished 83-79, third place in the National League Central Division for 2017. What do you anticipate for 2018? Can they get back up to 90+ wins again and contend for the division crown?
****Paul DeJong had an excellent rookie campaign, hitting .285/.325/.532 with 25 homers. Are you worried at all about his 21/124 BB/K ratio, or will he make any necessary adjustments going forward? What will his peak season look like?
****Speaking of peak seasons, what will Luke Weaver’s look like?
****Your development plan for young pitchers like Jack Flaherty, Alex Reyes, Dakota Hudson, and Austin Gomber? If they perform well in Triple-A, how fast do you push them?
****Which name is better, Ryan Sherriff or Wadye Ynfante?
****As always, feel free to discuss sleeper prospects or anything else Cardinals-oriented.
