2018 Arizona Fall League morning report: October 23

Good morning everyone and welcome to the Arizona Fall League morning report for October 23, 2018. Here’s what happened yesterday in the AFL.

****Visiting Glendale defeated Peoria 6-2. Cleveland Indians prospect Yu Chang hit a two-run homer for the victors while Seattle Mariners prospect Ian Miller hit a home run in the losing cause. Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Ben Holmes struck out six over four innings of work for the Desert Dogs.

****Visiting Salt River beat Surprise 8-5 behind a 13-hit attack. Miami Marlins prospect Monte Harrison went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while teammates Daulton Varsho (Arizona Diamondbacks), Sam Hilliard (Colorado Rockies), and Josh Fuentes (Rockies) each had two hits. Texas Rangers prospect Julio Pablo Martinez went 4-for-4 and hit for the cycle for the Saguaros.

****Visiting Mesa skipped past home team Scottsdale 2-1. Pitching dominated this game, with Detroit Tigers prospect Gregory Soto throwing five strong innings for the victors, fanning five and allowing no runs with just two hits allowed. Opponent Forrest Whitley of the Houston Astros system gave up two runs in the first inning then settled down, going 4.2 overall with five whiffs.
