Good morning everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball 2018 Arizona Fall League morning report for Thursday, October 18th, 2018. Here’s what happened yesterday in the AFL.
****Peoria defeated Surprise 7-2. San Diego Padres prospect Hudson Potts homered for the victors, driving in three runs. Teammate Miguel Diaz, also of the Padres system, threw four innings, allowing one run with two strikeouts. Saguaros right-hander Geoff Hartlieb of the Pittburgh Pirates system threw two shutout innings in relief fanning four.
****Scottsdale beat Glendale 2-1 in 11 innings. Both starting pitchers performed well, with Chris Lee (Baltimore Orioles) throwing four shutout innings with four strikeouts for the winners. Garrett Williams (San Francisco Giants) also threw four shutout innings in the losing cause. Teammate Melvin Avon, also of the Giants system, fanned four over two shutout relief innings and now has 10 strikeout, with zero walks, in 4.1 frames.
****Salt River had little trouble with visiting Mesa, winning 6-1. Daulton Varsho (Arizona Diamondbacks), Tyler Nevin (Colorado Rockies), and Monte Harrison (Miami Marlins) each had two hits. Jordan Yamamoto (Marlins) struck out six over three innings for the Rafters.
