2018 Arizona Fall League morning roundup: October 17

Good morning everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Arizona Fall League morning roundup for Wednesday, October 17th, 2018. Here’s what happened in the AFL yesterday.

****Scottsdale defeated Mesa 6-1. The biggest blow was a two-run home run by New York Mets prospect Peter Alonso, who went 2-for-3. Teammate Forrest Whitley of the Houston Astros system gave up one unearned run in four innings, fanning six. Glendale starter Ben Holmes of the Los Angeles Dodgers system gave up two runs in four innings, fanning three.

****Peoria outhit Surprise 16-8. Seattle Mariners prospect Ian Miller hit a home run for the Javelinas, while teammates Chris Mariscal (Mariners), Keston Hiura (Milwaukee Brewers), and Cristian Pache (Atlanta Braves) collect three hits each. Saguaros starter Evan Kruczynski of the St. Louis Cardinals organization threw 3.2 shutout innings in the losing cause. Teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr (Toronto Blue Jays) went 3-for-4 with a walk and is now hitting .591. Kansas City Royals prospect Nick Heath also went 3-for-4 and drew two walks.

****The Salt River pitching staff outdueled Mesa 2-1 behind starting pitcher Luis Reyes (Washington Nationals), who fired five shutout innings. Rafters outfielder Sam Hilliard of the Colorado Rockies system went 2-for-4 for the Rafters with a run scored and an RBI. Oakland Athletics outfield prospect Skye Bolt went 2-for-4 with a triple for the Solar Sox.
