Good morning everyone. Here are some items from the Arizona Fall League:
****On Friday, Surprise beat Glendale 4-1 in an unusual game for 2018: the pitching was decent, which has not been the case in most games this year. Vladimir Guerrero Jr went 3-for-5 but otherwise the contest was focused on pitching, with notably solid performances from Guerrero teammate Nate Pearson (3.1 shutout innings, four strikeouts) and Jackson McClelland (two shutout innings, two strikeouts) both of the Jays system.
****Mesa dominated Peoria 8-0. Five Solar Sox pitchers shut down the Javelinas offensive attack, with starter Erick Leal of the Chicago Cubs system (2.1 innings, three strikeouts) and Boston Red Sox lefty Darwinzon Hernandez (two innings, six strikeouts) being especially impressive. Los Angeles Angels prospect Jahmai Jones went 3-for-3 with a home run.
****Scottsdale defeated Salt River 6-2. New York Mets prospect Desmond Lindsay was the big star here, going 2-for-4 with two home runs, and teammate Abraham Toro-Hernandez of the Houston Astros system also homered while going 3-for-3. Rafters starter Jon Duplantier of the Arizona Diamondbacks system fanned three over two innings but took the loss due to an unearned run. Scottsdale starter Tyler Viza of the Philadelphia Phillies system fired three shutout innings with a pair of strikeouts.
