Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Gameday discussion thread for Tuesday, August 8th 2017.
****Today’s Minor League Scoreboard
****Yesterday’s Highlights can be found in the Monday discussion thread.
****Analysis of all the deadline trades involving prospects can be found here.
COOL STUFF THAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY
****Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels hit a home run yesterday and collected his 1,000th MLB hit. That’s a nice way for him to celebrate his 26th birthday. I’m so old, I remember back in the ancient days when Mike Trout was in Low-A and it was uncertain how much home run power he would develop at the highest levels.
****St. Louis Cardinals outfield prospect Harrison Bader hit a home run for Triple-A Memphis yesterday. Since being sent back down to the minors from the majors on July 31st, he’s 5-for-15 (.333) with the homer, three runs and four RBI, hitting .299/.353/.518 overall in the PCL.
****Detroit Tigers outfield prospect Cam Gibson went 5-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored, and four RBI for High-A Lakeland in the Florida State League, hitting for the cycle. The son of former Tiger great Kirk Gibson, Cam was drafted in the fifth round in 2015 from Michigan State University and is hitting .271/.342/.483 between Low-A and High-A this year.
****Tampa Bay Rays catching prospect Nick Ciuffo went 5-for-5 with three runs scored for Double-A Montgomery and has hit .429 in his last 10 games.
****Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Steven Brault threw seven shutout innings for Triple-A Indianapolis, giving him a 1.68 ERA in his last 59 innings and a 2.06 mark in 113 frames overall.
