Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Gameday discussion thread for Thursday, June 29th, 2017. Let’s get started.
****Today’s Minor League Scoreboard
****Yesterday’s Highlights can be found in the Wednesday discussion thread.
COOL THINGS THAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY
****Colorado Rockies third base prospect Ryan McMahon continues to batter Triple-A pitching, going 4-for-4 with a home run for the Albuquerque Isotopes against Fresno in Pacific Coast League action. He’s now hitting .440/.467/.734 in 109 at-bat since moving up from Double-A,
**** Fellow Colorado Rockies prospect Brendan Rodgers went 3-for-4 for Double-A Hartford. He’s found the Eastern League rather more difficult than the Cal League but he’s holding his own at 7-for-27 (.259) so far; no power yet, but he’s only 20.
****San Diego Padres prospect Jacob Nix threw a nine-inning two-hit shutout for the Lake Elsinore Storm in California League action, fanning 11 without allowing a single walk to Rancho Cucamonga. He now has a 2.84 ERA in six starts with a 36/4 K/BB in 38 innings. He was a third round pick in 2015 from IMG Academy; you may recall that he was originally drafted by the Houston Astros in 2014 but didn’t sign after the Brady Aiken situation messed up Houston’s bonus pool.
****Boston Red Sox prospect Rafael Devers went 3-for-4 with two homers and three RBI for Double-A Portland, raising his season line to .298/.359/.576.
